FAQs about Counseling:
How do I schedule a free consultation?
You may email or call me to schedule a free 15-minute consultation. I will ask you about what is bringing you to therapy and if you will be using insurance. You can ask me questions as well. After the consultation, we will schedule your first therapy session and I will send you a link to complete the intake paperwork. This takes about 15-30 minutes to complete and includes the intake questionnaire, consent forms, and credit card information. I use SessionsHealth and your information will be kept in a secure portal.
How do I make an appointment?
After your initial consultation, I will schedule your first appointment, and at each subsequent appointment, we will schedule your next appointment before we finish. You may also utilize your portal to manage your appointments. If you like, we may schedule 3-4 weeks’ worth of appointments to secure your time. However, if you no-show an appointment without calling or emailing, your following appointment will be canceled.
How long is a counseling session?
Counseling sessions are 50-55 minutes long. They are scheduled weekly, as research has found that people who attend their sessions weekly get more bang for their buck. They get better faster and don’t need to be in therapy as long. We will complete a treatment plan on your first or second visit with your goals and we will review this periodically to make sure we are using your time wisely and that you are making progress on your goals. I will frequently ask for your feedback on your progress.
What methods of payment are accepted?
You may pay by check, debit, or credit. You may use your insurance benefits as well.
Do you accept my insurance?
Yes, I am an in-network provider with a wide range of commercial insurance plans in both Florida and Maine. These include:
Florida: Blue Cross Blue Shield (Florida Blue), Lucet, Aetna, Cigna/Evernorth, UnitedHealthcare (Optum), Oscar, and Oxford.
Maine: I am fully credentialed with several major Maine insurance panels, including: Aetna, Cigna/Evernorth, Optum, United Health, Oscar, Oxford, Quest (EAP), Anthem BCBS of Maine, and Point 32 Healthcare
Do you accept Florida Medicaid?
I am currently in the Medicaid credentialing phase. Once fully approved (expected 2026), I will be able to accept various Managed Medical Assistance (MMA) plans, such as:, Sunshine Health, Simply Healthcare, Aetna Better Health of Florida, Humana Healthy Horizons, and UnitedHealthcare Community Plan If you are a Medicaid recipient, please contact me to be added to the waitlist for when my provider ID goes active.
How does virtual counseling work with insurance?
Since I operate a 100% virtual practice, I use a HIPAA-compliant video platform on Google Workspace. Most insurance companies now offer "Telehealth Parity," meaning your virtual visit is covered the same way an in-person visit would be.
Pro-Tip: Check your member portal for "Telehealth benefits" to see if your copay is different for video sessions.
What if I live in Maine?
I am licensed and credentialed to provide virtual therapy for residents across the state of Maine. Whether you are in Portland, Bangor, or a rural area, you can access specialized care from your home using your Maine-based insurance benefits.
What are your self-pay (private pay) rates?
For clients who prefer not to use insurance or are seeking services not covered by their plan, my private pay rates are:
Psychiatric Diagnostic Evaluation (Intake): $150
Individual Psychotherapy (53+ minutes): $125
Individual Clinical Supervision for Registered Interns: $55
How do I verify my benefits?
I recommend calling the member services number on the back of your insurance card and asking:
"Is Michelle White an in-network provider for outpatient mental health?"
"Do I have a deductible to meet before my copay kicks in?"
"Is telehealth (Place of Service 02) a covered benefit under my plan?"
Meet Wolfie!
Since I work from home, you will likely see my cat, Wolfie, in the room with me. She is 13 years old and is a polydactyl (she has 6 toes!). She is a bit shy these days, but sometimes she likes to get on my lap. One thing she hates: closed doors! haha. Some days we have disagreements about whether the door is opened or closed, but mom always wins (at least for a few minutes). You are welcome to tell her Hello.
